چکیده

One common view holds that that the human neocortex consists of a single, massivelyrepeated, “canonical” computation (Creutzfeldt, 1977; George & Hawkins, 2009; Hawkins & Blakeslee, 2007; Kurzweil, 2012; Mountcastle, 1978). But, after forty years, there is still no consensus about the nature of such a putative canonical computation, and little evidence that such uniform architectures can capture the diversity of cortical function in simple mammals, let alone language and abstract thinking (Hadley, 2009; Marcus, 2001). As we suggest in (Marcus, Marblestone, & Dean, 2014), an alternative is that the cortex might consist of a diverse set of computationally distinct building blocks that implement a broad range of elementary, reusable computations.

Learning Curve Consideration in Makespan Computation Using Artificial Neural Network Approach

This paper presents an alternative method using artificial neural network (ANN) to develop a scheduling scheme which is used to determine the makespan or cycle time of a group of jobs going through a series of stages or workstations. The common conventional method uses mathematical programming techniques and presented in Gantt charts forms. The contribution of this paper is in three fold. First...

Computational neuroscience

Taking ‘computational neuroscience’ to denote theoretical neuroscience, I describe accounts of representation, neural computation, and cognitive function consistent with recent advances in this field. During this discussion I provide an overview of neural coding and survey its possible implications for more traditional theories of the meaning of mental representations. Subsequently, I describe ...

An approach based on neural computation to simulate transition metals using tight binding measurements

A theoretical study of neural networks modeling, based on the tight binding approach, is proposed in this study. The aim of the present contribution is to establish a network topology to compute the binding energy parameters of transition metals. However, because of the different types of crystallization fcc, bcc, hcp, and sc of transition metals, neural network topology determination cannot be...

Generation of motor neurons from human amygdala-derived neural stem-like cells

Objective(s): Among several cell sources, adult human neural stem/progenitor cells (hNS/PCs) have been considered outstanding cells for performing mechanistic studies in in vitro and in vivo models of neurological disorders as well as for potential utility in cell-based therapeutic approaches. Previous studies addressed the isolation and culture of hNS/PCs from human neocortical and hippocampal...

O13: Human Neural Stem/Progenitor Cells Derived from Epileptic Human Brain in A Self-Assembling Peptide Nanoscaffold Attenuates Neuroinlammation in Traumatic Brain Injury in Rats

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a disruption in the brain functions following a head trauma. Cell therapy may provide a promising treatment for TBI. Human neural stem cells cultured in self-assembling peptide scaffolds have been proposed as a potential novel method for cell replacement treatment after TBI. In the present study, we accessed the effects of human neural stem/progenitor cells (hNS/...
